Rural Mental Health webinar hosted by the Scottish Rural Health Partnership and the National Mental Health Forum Date: 19th October 2022 Time: 11.00am - 1pm Format: Presentation and Q&A Speakers: 11.00am - 11.30pm Dr Liz Ellis, Division for Rural Health and Wellbeing Dr Liz Ellis, post-doc researcher from the Division of Rural Health and Wellbeing (RHW) at the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI), will give an overview and present the outcomes of workshops conducted with Prof Sarah-Anne Munoz, Professor of Rural Health, and Dr Sara Bradley Research Fellow, from RHW-UHI and Dr Rachel Erskine and Hereward Proops from UHI Outer Hebrides, as part of a Delphi study to explore rural mental health issues in the Isle of Lewis and Highland Region. The outcomes will be related to the narrative review of Scottish island mental health research funded by the Scottish Government Islands Fund and carried out by Dr Janet Heaton, Senior Research Fellow at RHW-UHI. 11.30 - 12.00pm - Rachel Bottomley, Improvement Officer, See Me Scotland Rachel Bottomley is an Improvement Officer at See Me and manages the See Me in Work programme. This programme provides support for employers in Scotland that are committed to creating working environments inclusive of mental health, and free from stigma and discrimination. The presentation will include an overview of the See Me in Work portal, which launched on the 11th August, as well as other tools and resources you can use to tackle mental health stigma and discrimination. Last year See Me launched its 5-year strategy, ‘With Fairness in Mind’ and has committed to increase the reach and scope of our work with priority groups where stigma is most prevalent. At the end of the presentation See Me will seek feedback from the forum and make and appeal to anyone who would be interested in partnering with us to trial some of our digital resources, as well as looking for ways to develop new resources that tackle stigma and discrimination in male dominated industries.’ 12.00pm - 12.30pm - Martin Malcolm, Head of Public Health Intelligence - Research and Innovation Lead at NHS Western Isles Martin Malcolm, Head of Research and Development and Public Health Intelligence in NHS Western Isles will be talking about a range of digital health interventions developed and being implemented for supporting mental health in remote, rural and island communities. He will also share evaluation outcomes relating to this form of intervention where they have been trialled in these communities.
